Telefonica geen interesse in E-Plus

Telefonica SA’s German mobile business has no plans to make a play for Royal KPN NV’s E-Plus in Germany, preferring instead to stick to its strategy of growing its customer base on the back of the smartphone phenomenon, the group’s European boss said.

Matthew Key, chairman and chief executive of Telefonica Europe, told reporters that it “wouldn’t make them (E-Plus) an offer”, in response to a question about the likelihood of consolidation in Germany.”We are very happy with our position in Germany.”

O2 Germany is the nation’s fourth-largest mobile network provider by mobile customers at the end of Sept. 30 with Vodafone Group PLC the number one player. Deutsche Telekom and E-Plus are the second and third-largest, respectively.
